Charlie Burkhart scored on a 9-yard run with only eight seconds remaining Friday to give Wakeland a thrilling 35-28 victory over Richardson Pearce.
After the start of the game was delayed for nearly two hours because of rain, Wakeland relied heavily on its rushing attack in the wet conditions. Two Wolverines players rushed for more than 100 yards -- Cade Starnes (12 rushes, 144 yards, 1 touchdown) and Burkhart (9 carries, 106 yards, 2 touchdowns).
Wakeland plays McKinney North on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Ford Center.
