Frisco ISD showed again Saturday the depth of its swimming and diving talent at the UIL State Swimming and Diving Meet at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin.

The District’s large contingent of swimmers and divers included at least one participant from each of FISD’s 10 high schools, and those student-athletes helped the District place a total of six teams – three girls and three boys – in the top 25 of the 5A state standings.

The District’s top finisher was the Wakeland boys, who finished as the 5A state runner-up for the second straight year. Led by Conor McKenna, who won gold in the 100-yard breaststroke, the Wolverines piled up 156 points. Humble Kingwood Park won the boys title with 215 points.

Memorial, competing for the first time with seniors, finished 12th in the boys standings. Frisco was 15th. In the girls standings, Independence finished 12th, Liberty was 20th and Lone Star was 24th. All 10 of FISD’s high schools scored at least five points at the meet featuring the state’s top swimmers and divers.

FISD athletes won medals in eight events. Lone Star’s Joelle Reddin earned silver medals in the girls 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle, Independence’s Sienna Schellenger earned a bronze in the 50 freestyle, and Memorial’s Peyton Guziec claimed a bronze in the girls 1-meter diving competition. The Wakeland boys earned medals in all three relay events, taking silver medals in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays and a bronze in the 400 freestyle relay.
