The Wakeland High School boys and girls soccer teams are headed back to state championship games.
On Tuesday, the Wakeland boys beat El Paso Del Valle 4-2 and the Wakeland girls beat Grapevine 3-2 in their 5A state semifinals. Those wins advanced them to the UIL state championship weekend in Georgetown.
The Wakeland boys will be playing in their fifth straight 5A title game (2016, ’17, ’18, ’19 and ’21 -- the 2020 playoffs were canceled). The Wakeland girls will be in the championship game for the first time since 2018, which is when Wakeland swept the boys and girls 5A soccer titles.
