The Wakeland football team started the season on an encouraging note, rolling to a 38-10 victory over Sulphur Springs at Toyota Stadium.

Quarterback Peyton Lewis led the Wolverines' offensive attack, throwing for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those touchdown passes were to Dugan Sexton, who finished with five catches for 132 yards. Jared White rushed for two touchdowns for Wakeland.

The Wakeland defense made sure its offense had plenty of opportunities by coming up with three takeaways. The defense recovered a fumble and intercepted two Sulphur Springs passes. The Wolverines also forced Sulphur Springs to punt four times.

Wakeland returns to action Friday, Oct. 2 with a game at FISD Memorial Stadium against Richardson Pearce.
